BioMedical Admissions Test for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine/Science and related degrees
Test Information:
The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a subject-specific admissions test taken by applicants to certain medicine, veterinary medicine and related courses. The BMAT is owned and administered by Cambridge Assessment who are responsible for producing and marking the test, and also facilitate an extensive worldwide centre network at which applicants can sit the BMAT.
The BMAT is a two hour paper test consisting of three sections:
Section 1: Aptitude and Skills (60 minutes comprising of 35 multiple choice or short answer questions). Tests generic skills often used in undergraduate study, including Problem Solving, Understanding Arguments and Data Analysis and Inference abilities
Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Application (30 minutes comprising of 27 multiple choice or short answer questions). Tests ability to apply scientific knowledge normally encountered in non-specialist school Science and Mathematics courses (i.e. up to and including National Curriculum Key Stage 4, Higher Double Science and Mathematics)
Section 3: Writing Task (30 minutes comprising of 1 essay question from a choice of 4 questions). Tests ability to select, develop and organise ideas and communicate them in writing in a concise and effective way.
A pencil is required for Sections 1 and 2 and a pen for Section 3 (Writing Task)
Results will be available on Wednesday 1 December 2010. Applicants and centres will be able to download results using the online results extranet. Information about how to retrieve results will be provided to centres and applicants at the time of the test.

Duration - 2 hours
How much - the standard entry fee is £42.50 for EU (including UK) applicants and £72.50 for Rest of the World applicants, for entries registered up to 5pm BST on 30 September 2010.
An additional £30 will be applied for all applicants registering between 1 October and 15 October 2010. The late entry closing date is 5pm BST on 15 October.
Fee reimbursement/bursary - The Universities of Cambridge, Oxford, University College London, the Royal Veterinary College and Imperial College London are concerned that the entry fee should not be viewed as a barrier to access and widening participation.
Applicants from the UK in receipt of full Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), Job Seeker's Allowance or Income Support may apply for their BMAT fees to be reimbursed. Applicants from within the EU in receipt of full EMA, or the equivalent, may apply for their BMAT fees to be reimbursed by writing directly to the BMAT Support Team by Friday 15 October 2010.
