BioMedical Admissions Test for Medicine, Veterinary Medicine/Science and related degrees
Test Information:
The BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a subject-specific admissions test taken by applicants to certain medicine, veterinary medicine and related courses. The BMAT is owned and administered by Cambridge Assessment who are responsible for producing and marking the test, and also facilitate an extensive worldwide centre network at which applicants can sit the BMAT.
The BMAT is a two hour paper test consisting of three sections:
Section 1: Aptitude and Skills (60 minutes comprising of 35 multiple choice or short answer questions). Tests generic skills often used in undergraduate study, including Problem Solving, Understanding Argument and Data Analysis and Inference abilities
Section 2: Scientific Knowledge and Application (30 minutes comprising of 27 multiple choice or short answer questions). Tests ability to apply scientific knowledge normally encountered in non-specialist school Science and Mathematics courses (i.e. up to and including National Curriculum Key Stage 4)
Section 3: Writing Task (30 minutes comprising of 1 essay question from a choice of 4 questions). Tests ability to select, develop and organise ideas and communicate them in writing in a concise and effective way.
A pencil is required for Sections 1 and 2 and a pen for Section 3 (Writing Task). Calculators may not be used in the BMAT.
Results will be available on Wednesday 23 November 2011. Paper results are no longer issued. Applicants and centres will be able to download results using the Results Online system. Information about how to retrieve results will be provided to centres and applicants at the time of the test.

How much - the standard entry fee is £42.50 for EU (including UK) applicants and £72.50 for Rest of the World applicants, for entries registered up to 5pm BST on 30 September 2011.
An additional £30 will be applied for all applicants registering between 1 October and 14 October 2011. The late entry closing date is 5pm BST on 14 October.
Fee reimbursement/bursary - Applicants in receipt of: the full Adult Learning Grant (ALG), or full Maintenance Grant, or Income-Based Job Seeker’s Allowance, or Income Support, can apply for the BMAT standard entry fee (late fees are not eligible) to be reimbursed. EU candidates in receipt of equivalent allowances or grants in their home country may be entitled to reimbursement. Please contact the BMAT Support Team for more information.
Applicants registered through a closed centre, should speak to their Exams Officer, Head of Sixth Form or Careers Officer and ask them to contact the BMAT support team. Applicants registered through an open centre should contact the support team directly. All applications for reimbursement must be with the BMAT Support Team by Friday 14 October 2011.
