UCAS Data, Statistics and Reports

A wide range of data, statistics and reports are freely available from UCAS which cover the following application schemes: UCAS, GTTR and CUKAS. This data is UK wide covering several years and is supplementary to the institution specific data and reports which are available via UCAS web-link. You can access the information as raw data to enable you to perform your own analysis; or, you can have regularly produced statistics and reports compiled and accessible on the appropriate website.

The Statistics Online section of the UCAS website provides datasets (both static and user defined) which can be viewed online or downloaded into a spreadsheet for user analysis.

The Statistical Enquiry Tool provides UK data for all full time applicants at UCAS institutions, covering the period 1996 to 2009 entry and allows you to customise the available data. Alternatively, a range of static data tables can be accessed; these tables contain high level data covering a six year period across a range of variables e.g. age, ethnicity, gender. The Applications Digest provides a comparative snapshot of applications received by each institution that gives its permission in January, March and June, compared with the previous cycle figures.

Using Annual Datasets involves downloading the data into a spreadsheet for user analysis. These national datasets are broken down by country and cover eight themes over a five year period. They are available for a range of variables: Institution, Subject, Age, Domicile, Qualifications, Ethnicity, and International.

The Statistical Services section provides a range of reports that can also be accessed online (some of this data is password protected for use by HE staff). These reports provide the latest information on applications received to date in the current entry cycle and include: MS12 Analysis of Applications, Situation Reports, and the Applications Digest.

The GTTR website provides access to statistics on Postgraduate Teacher Training applications. Applicant Statistics makes available on a weekly basis the most recent statistics for applications for Post Graduate Teacher Training courses. The data covers subjects applied for broken down by country, gender and teaching age range and a breakdown of the teaching age range figures by country and compared to the previous year’s figures. Applicant Acceptance figures are produced on the same basis at points throughout the application cycle. The Annual Statistical Report is also available for the years 2000 to 2010.

The Conservatoires UK Admissions website provides data in the form of the published Annual Report.

If you are at a UCAS member institution you can use web-link to view your applicant data, to update course and institution information and to process applicant data. This web-based online facility enables you to view and download applicant data, statistical data and reports relevant to your institution and to a particular application scheme (UCAS, GTTR, CUKAS, and UKPASS). Access to web-link is administered within each institution and many give read only access to academic staff and to other support staff.

UCAS also provide a bespoke analysis service and other data products on a commercial basis (at an extra cost). An example of this is Application Tracker from UCAS Data Insight, better known as AppTrack. This is an interactive web-based service providing weekly application figures and analysis by institution, benchmarked against previous application cycles. This enables HEI colleagues to compare their current status at national, institutional and competitor level. Decision Tracker allows institutions to compare current performance against previous application cycles, your competitors' and your own benchmarks
