Good Practice
Part-time Admissions
Part-time study is a key issue for higher education.
It is thought to enhance fair access, improve opportunities for adults, help students to study flexibly and to encourage higher and further education institutions to work with employers, meeting training needs and enhancing higher-level skills. It is seen as a priority by all the UK's Governments which view flexible, work-linked education as a priority, and is also of interest to policy organisations and to the media.
To help the sector and to develop good practice SPA has developed a Good Practice Statement on the admission of part-time students. The Statement is intended to offer guidance both on the principles which should apply and on practical procedures. Issues covered include the definition of part-time students, engagement at a strategic level, how institutions can make information available, application procedures and information advice and guidance. This is a complex subject so we have also developed a summary checklist of the key points.
We are keen to receive examples of good practice and to work with institutions as they explore part-time issues. If you have any comments or questions please get in touch with Leslie Currie, SPA Senior Project officer, at l.currie@spa.ac.uk, 01242 544757.
